Open Show Report

Hello everyone

Our 2011 Non-Championship Show which was held on Sunday 1st May turned out to be a most successful event. Mr Gerald Bidder kindly agreed to judge our Child and Junior Handlers (thank you so much, Gerald!) while the Breed Classes were judged most competently by Mr Tooley Muller who came down from Pretoria for the show. As always, our judging went smoothly due to the expert management of the ring by our Ring Steward, Annelene! Despite the rather warm weather, we had a good entry. Exhibitors enjoyed our fun challenges – the Members Challenge and the Brace. Many thanks to everyone who supported the Cape Terrier Club by entering – especially those who were showing for the first time!

A number of lovely photos were taken – some of which are already available for viewing and downloading on our Gallery page. Many thanks to Alwine, Joe and others for capturing the magic of the day on camera.

Special thanks to Hills Pet Nutrition who sponsored the show, to everyone who supported the club by donating raffle prizes and to Mr Jim Connolly for helping to put up the gazebos and the ring! We will miss you, Jim!

Well done to the hard-working members of the committee for organising such a successful show!

WODAC – World of Dogs and Cats

Hello everyone

If you did not manage to visit the WODAC expo at the Good Hope Centre last weekend, you missed a fabulous show! The exhibition hall was filled with interesting stalls, many fascinating pets (dogs, cats, horses, rats, fish, birds, snakes …) and a large arena in which a variety of events were held – from breed competitions to displays of dog obedience work, agility displays, miniature horse-cart and dog-cart displays, dog dancing to music and the finals of the many competitions which were held: cats, grooming, breed, etc.

The Cape Terrier Club had a stand which was manned by a number of club members. We arranged for various terrier breeds to visit the stand so that we could entertain/enlighted the many members of the public who visited us. Special thanks go to Alwine and Christine for decorating the stand; to Johan and Stephenette for loaning us the crates; to Anne and Angus for helping to transport the equipment to and from the expo. Without the dogs we would not have had an interesting stand! Our grateful thanks go to the many club members who gave up their time to come along with their dogs. I think I can safely say that a good time was had by all.

Congratulations to Sue with her Soft Coated Wheaten, to Juan with his Bullies, to Joyce with Machteld’s Westie for being placed in the breed competitions.

The organisers of WODAC can congratulate themselves on a well-run and successful event.

Our new Gallery page!

Hello everyone

When you visit our Gallery page, you will notice that the photographs are now stored in Picasa Web Albums. To view the photos, click on the ‘front cover’ of the album and then click on ‘Slideshow’. If you then click your F11 function key, you can enjoy the slide show on full screen. Click F11 to see your toolbars again. The photographs change every 3 seconds, but you can adjust this timing.

Annual Championship Show – report back

Hello everyone

Our annual championship show was held on Friday 22 October at the Brackenfell Cricket Club. The weather forecast was cause for concern but, luckily, the predicted rain held off!

Max King (UK) and Dave Brennan (KZN), our judges, arrived in time to enjoy a light lunch before the show started at 14h30. Over 100 exhibitors entered the show, including one child and two junior handlers which is a bit of a record.

The show went extremely well and came to an end as the sun sank behind the mountains. The Committee would like to thank everyone who entered the show, and to congratulate all the winners.

A special word of thanks to Joe Nagel for being our rather excellent Show Photographer. His photographs can be viewed on our Gallery page.
