32nd Annual Championship Show Report Back

h1 October 29th, 2007

This year, the show was held at the Brackenfell Sports Club – a new venue for our club and one that will definitely be up for consideration in the future. The weather was unbelievably hot in the morning but luckily started to cool down slightly once the wind came up and showing was not too uncomfortable for the dogs or exhibitors.

We had a decent entry of 97 dogs with more than a third of the exhibitors making the journey from outside the Western Cape – a big thank you to all of you for making the effort and supporting the Cape Spring Show Fortnight! Best in Show went to the Scottish Terrier that has taken the Cape by storm, Ch Gladwen Black Magic, bred by the late Mrs Gwen Steyn and owned by Mr George Loock from Pretoria, with the Reserve being awarded to the Port Elizabeth Norfolk Terrier, Ch Shamanda Last of a Legend, owned and bred by Miss Amanda Young.

For the first time, we ran a Members’ Challenge after the Best in Show and had a very nice entry of twelve dogs including Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Airedale, Irish, Scottish and West Highland White Terriers. The challenge was won by a Staffie, with a Westie second and a Scottie third, each of which won a nice cash prize.

Non-Championship Show Sunday 6 May – Report

h1 May 22nd, 2007

The day dawned bright, chilly but fine and sunny so we were blessed with the weather! Our open show venue proved excellent – with clean, well-mown surfaces and access to very nice clubhouse and cloakrooms.

Entries came in steadily and we received a respectable total of 42 entrants. Particularly gratifying was seeing the few “first-time” exhibitors – puppies and owners alike – who came along and tried their hand at this wonderful sport. One of these First Timers went on to triumph as the Best Short-Legged Terrier in Show and walked off with the Ruth Howison Trophy for this achievement – not a bad start to a new show career!

Our judge, Mrs Stephanette du Toit, did a thoroughly professional job for us and gave Best in Show to the young Bullie bitch, Anmor Lunar Pearl of Sunraige owned by Juan Slabbert. A Staffie puppy bitch owned and bred by Jumarie Knoetzen, Jumarcha Lady Luca, came second, with Ms Cynthia Barnett’s junior Airedale bitch, Albenor Casino Girl in third place. Fourth position went to the young Scottie dog, Angus, owned and shown for the first time by Rudolph du Plessis. Well done to one and all!

Excellent catering provided by the Girl Guides was available and a most pleasant day was shared by all who attended.

Non-Championship Show Report Back : May 2007

h1 May 8th, 2007

Hello Everyone,

I hope you will all agree that the show on Sunday 6 May was wonderful: we had a good entry, the weather was kind to us, the catering was fantastic – and there were no dramas! Many thanks to everyone who exhibited and all those who came to support us.

Our Chairlady returned from her trip to South America in time to attend the show, and our Show Manager returned from his Caribbean cruise (it may be more accurate to call it a booze cruise!) safely and in time to be at the show. More about their trips in the newsletter!

Lindsay is busy tying up all the loose ends and will write a Show Report for us in a day or so.

Many thanks to our two photographers, Sue Impey and Alwine Pretorius. They worked tirelessly to take some lovely shots of everyone in action. I hope you enjoy viewing the pictures in our photo gallery.

If anyone has an article to submit, an advert, a story or a photo they wish to publish in the June newsletter, please send it to me as soon as you can!

Kind Regards
